T2-64 : THRILLER PROJECT 2007/8

Generic Conventions

Generic conventions are the themes that make a thriller what it is. Examples are, edge of your seat suspense, the flawed character, the gaze(seeing things you shouldn't and being watched), located in a safe environment to play on your fears and phobias, use of creepy music, enigma that needs to be solved.

Rough Cut Feedback

Editing:
Faily well edited, some bits when the time between the shots was a bit long.
there was some really good cuts.
the editing of the footage into sepia tone at some points was highly effective.
well done

Camerwork:
captures something in every shot
no pointless shots - all adds to the story
wicked running shot with the knees

Sound:
unfortunately there is no soundtrack
Add non-diegetic sounds such as footsteps, wind, struggerling etc.

mise en scene:
mysterious - good use of props; rope, stick etc.
good location
good effects
fits generic conventions
costume - made it more obvious who is the killer
good contrast between slow and fast paced shots

Narrative:
mystery - which characters are which; victim or villain
violence - hand over mouth, stuggerling, tying up shots.
Death - shots of the "dead" body

Planning

For our filming we will need a camera, costumes, fake blood...
We will need to film at various different locations so we get the best effects. Such as in the media studio, in a cafe and in a forest. Most of this can be done on the Long Road site.
We are not going to film at the weekends as many of us have work. However we are going to film as much as possible during the lessons and after college.
Costumes will need to be everyday clothing (except for the joggers) and victims clothing will be ripped and blood stained.
Props will need to be fake blood, water bottle, knives/weapons, mobile phone, cafe props e.g. bill...

Analysis of surface opening sequence

Analysis of surface:

good use of spooky graphics eg blood effects
close ups and shakey effects made it more realisic and mysterious.

titles and music worked well and was definitly obvious that it was the opening credits of a thriller.

critism: was a little too long
slightly boring as there wasnt much change didnt build up much tension as it didnt give or start any kind of plot.
