Feedback take two

how effectively edited is this thriller?
There were some highly effective transitions, clever distortions of colour

Give an example of a section of effective editing or a single cut that you liked and explain why?
The shot with the feet is excellently edited. the effect of the colour contrast with sepia tone looks both creepy and artistic.

Discuss the use of sound in this thriller, both diegetic and non diegetic what emotions does it invoke and how effective is it?
There is no non diegetic sound but the sounds that you have created fits in well with the footage excellently. at different points of the music highlights key points in the footage which works really well.

What words would you use to describe the visual style? Give an example of effective use of either props, costume and location?
The scene in the forest was great, a good location to set a thriller which made it look very realistic
the props used such as rope adds a sense of realism.

Highlight at least three things that you think are good about this thriller. and two areas for development or suggestions of how things could have been done differently ?
Editing and colour is effective
good effects
music is good fits the pace and mood

more close ups would add suspense and make it more mysterious.
Titles could be more mysterious font ect.

Individual Analysis

Overall I think that our finished product was successful, i feel we spent our time wisely. We where very presice about the way we wanted our thriller sequence to look to an audience. Although we couldn't get the exact music we wanted within the time we got an end result which worked very well.
At the started when we was planning our sequence tittle we had an idea that we thought would be easily done but as we got further through the project we realised that it wasen't going to be so easy.
To start we wanted to get a sound of the heart beating in the background music, but we could not get a beat close enough to this so we decided to make our own music and build up tension through out our thriller, making the audience think about what is going to happen next. I liked our titles as they made it look more thriller like and didn't move aournd the screen. We also made sure that they were not too big and just the right size, We made our tittle sequence's name big so it is obvious its the name.
Camera angles, we used panning to show the dead body this was used quite a bit before the flashbacks. Close-ups where used so it wasen't clear who the killer or victim was, we also used behind shots to show this.
Editing, was used alot but in a good way. We used sepia to give the black and white effect to our flash backs. To get our flashbacks we used transistions and put a white screen in between to amke our flashback work. We also used fading tranistions to fade our begining and ending titles. We also sped up and slowed down a few shots, to make them more effective.
Generic Convections are themes that make a thriller what it is. In our thriller we used generic convections. There is alot of violence, this shows that is it a thriller using shots such as; Tying up hands or hand covering mouth. A death is usally within a thriller, we had a body and used panning to gradually showing the body. Flash back where to show what had happened in the day before the death. I think our thriller was very well done to communitcate the generic convections of a thriller.

Final Thriller

Labels:

our rough cut

final feedback

Questions we asked:
1.Do you understand whats happening?
Most of the people we asked answered yes, they understood it was based on three girls that go missing and that it may be a carry on of the last girl.
2.What are any improvments?
One group were confused about the suspects and which one could have been the killer. some didnt like the close up of the mouth at the end and think the scream could have been cut out to leave the final girl talking. It was also commented that too may flashes were used and there were not enough location shots. The title could also have been smaller.
3.What worked well?
The voice overs especially at the end and the photoframe shot was effective. The suspect pictures and missing shots worked really well especially with the girl talking over at the end.
background noises worked well, girl talking at the end carried it on.
4.What didnt work well?
Titles too big.
5.What is/isnt effective with the sound?
Fits really well with the whole feel of the piece. real voices and sirens used were clear end effective. fits well and effective.
6.Any further questions?
How did you do the voice overs?

Reply To Thriller Feedback

We thought overall our feedback was good and we are very pleased. We agree with alot of the feedback and criticisms as we to think that certain shots look out of place, such as; The mouth covered up shot and shadow shot. We are also pleased that they understood that we were trying to hind the identity of the killer and victim.
